Dr. Fiona Rorrison

MBChB Bachelor of Medicine (Glasgow)
FRNZCGP Fellow of the Royal NZ College of GPs

Dr Fiona Rorrison is a co-owner of The Village Medical Centre, which she founded alongside Dr Laura Brown in 2021. Their vision was to create a small, welcoming general practice built around excellent clinical care with a personalised, patient-centred approach.

Dr Rorrison graduated from the University of Glasgow and brings more than 30 years of experience in General Practice. She enjoys all aspects of medicine and values the variety, challenge, and human connection that each day in practice brings. She has particular interests in mental health and the management of chronic health conditions.

Dr Rorrison strongly believes that continuity of care leads to the best health outcomes. By truly knowing her patients and building relationships she is able to provide thoughtful, compassionate, and individualised care.

She is incredibly proud of what the team at The Village has created. Together, they have built a practice where patients feel genuinely known, supported, and valued as individuals.

Outside of medicine, Fiona treasures time spent with her family, loves living in Queenstown and making the most of everything Central Otago has to offer.

Dr. Laura Brown

MBChB Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
DCH Diploma in Child Health
FRNZCGP Fellow of the Royal NZ College of GPs

Laura grew up in Southland and graduated from Otago University in 2005. She spent a few years in Auckland and Christchurch City Hospitals before moving to General Practice in 2012 and to Queenstown in 2017.

Laura enjoys all aspects of family medicine. She has completed extra training in child health and has a personal interest in women’s health.

Laura is especially excited about starting up a new practice to provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment. A place where you can feel comfortable seeking help. Where patients are invited to come and be an active part of the journey towards better health.

The traditional GP model in the sense of familiarity – knowing your doctor, nurse and receptionist – is where it’s at according to Laura. Excellent service means providing continuity of care and patient inclusiveness with communication between the practice and patients being paramount.

Outside of work Laura enjoys time with her wonderful family, getting out and about in the outdoors, skiing, biking and camping. She especially enjoys mountain biking, running, and the odd adventure race.

Alex graduated from Otago Medical School in 1999 and gained experience in a number of different specialties, including obstetrics and gynaecology, prior to choosing to train in General Practice in 2004. It is the varied nature and the long-lasting relationships and bonds she forms with patients which she really enjoys as part of her day to day work.

In addition to general practice, Alex has worked in Clinical Research for 10yrs, during which she gained a Diploma in Human Pharmacology. She continues to have an active interest in this area.

In 2025, Alex and her husband, along with their elderly and much-loved dog, decided to move to the Queenstown Lakes area having spent the majority of her life in Christchurch. They are thoroughly enjoying everything that this area has to offer and look forward to spending many happy years here.

Your Friendly Medical Centre Team

MAIRI

Mairi is an experienced general manager and brings over 20 years of strategic and operational management experience to the practice.

Mairi will be responsible for the day-to-day smooth operations of the business and is passionate about working in a productive collaborative and enjoyable work environment with a real focus on patient care.

Originally from Scotland, Mairi moved to NZ in 2002 and loves the outdoor opportunities on our doorstep. She can regularly be seen mountain biking, walking, skiing, and golfing and when there is time to relax, she loves nothing better than catching up with friends, cooking, or watching a good movie.

MEL

/ Reception

Mel has lived in Queenstown for most of her life and describes herself as being “just a few years off being born and bred”.

“Taking on my new vocation as a receptionist at the Village Medical Centre has allowed me to connect with my community. I like to greet everyone who walks through the door with a warm smile, and I enjoy welcoming patients into a safe, caring and supportive environment where I know that they will be respected and well looked after by our accomplished medical team.”

“I have a deep connection with nature, it’s my happy place. I feel very lucky to live near a crystal clear lake which I can paddle or swim in, mountains which I can ski down and hills which I can bike and walk in and around. I am grateful and proud to call the Whakatipu my home.”

MAIREAD

/ Reception

Mairead is originally from Ireland and has been living in Queenstown for the past 12 years. She loves the ‘kiwi way’ but, by her own admission, “still talks a little funny”!

“I am delighted to work in such a warm and genuinely caring practice with wonderful people.”

Outside of work, Mairead enjoys all of the beautiful walks that Queenstown has to offer and says, “I never get bored of the unbelievable scenery”. She also loves catching up with friends and sitting down to watch television with a cup of tea and some biscuits.

RACHEL

/ Reception

Rachel has lived in Arrowtown for the last 23 years – which is almost long enough to be called a ‘local’!

“I absolutely love everything about the Central Otago area, especially the lakes where I spend most of the summer with my family.”

“I feel very excited and lucky to have started working at The Village Medical Centre with the most amazing group of people. It will be wonderful to be able to assist those who live in the local community with their healthcare needs.”

In her spare time, Rachel loves coaching and watching her children in all of their sports and camping at Glendhu Bay.

KRISTEN

/ Practice Nurse

Kristen has lived in many different places throughout New Zealand and has also lived in Australia and Scandinavia. Kristen arrived in Queenstown in the spring of 2021. Her grandfather was born at Kyeburn Diggings and she was keen to return to her Central Otago roots.

Kristen is a Registered General and Obstetric Nurse who holds a post-graduate diploma in Advanced Nursing Practice, specialising in Oncology. Her career spans three decades, which Kristen says she finds hard to believe! The depth of Kristen’s experience stands her in good stead to offer the highest standard of care for the patients who come to the Village Medical Centre. In recent years Kristen has been involved in setting up infusion services in Christchurch, and prior to that, she spent 15 years in Sydney working in a busy day infusion chemotherapy clinic.

“I feel blessed to be able to live amongst such beauty, and I enjoy everything that the great outdoors has to offer.”

ANDIE

/ Practice Nurse

Andie started her Nursing career in Ireland, before emigrating to NZ in 2008. She worked at our local hospital for several years before moving into general practice. She also teaches advanced practice nursing skills throughout Te Waipounamu as a Nurse Educator and prescriber.

With a passion for endurance sports and women’s health, Queenstown is the ideal home, surrounded by the mountains with her young family.

As a Community Nurse Prescriber, Andie can independently treat most common conditions, such as eczema, skin infections, UTIs, STIs, throat and ear infections, mild allergies, and asthma repeats. Andie can also discuss and prescribe most contraception options.

ANNA

/ Practice Nurse

Anna graduated from her nursing studies in Brisbane in 2006 and has since built extensive experience across general medicine and emergency care. She has a special interest in travel medicine, sexual health, wound management, and supporting the health and wellbeing of women and children. Anna is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care and enjoys building meaningful relationships with her patients.

Having lived in Queenstown since 2011, Anna values being part of the local community and caring for people across all stages of life. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her young family and taking advantage of the region’s beautiful outdoors through hiking and snowboarding.

RAYELEE

/ Practice Nurse

Rayelee is an experienced and well-travelled nurse from Australia who has found her home in Queenstown for the last 8 years.

She has been nursing for 12 years, starting with a post-grad in anaesthetics and peri-operative care, she has worked in remote nursing around Australia, emergency medicine, and for the last 3 years, primary health care.

She loves connecting with people and helping to find supportive ways to improve overall health for individuals and their families.

“I am excited to join the Village as I believe that the small team enables us to work together to provide the best personalised support for our patient’s health journey.”

PENNY

/ Health Improvement Practitioner

Queenstown has been Penny’s home for 20-plus years, originally from Hawkes Bay. She loves this town, and all it has to offer and feels blessed to call it home.

Originally trained as an Occupational Therapist, although she has had a huge array of jobs working with people over the last 20 years, she has come full circle. She is excited to be working as a HIP and all that this role offers people in the community. She is passionate about helping people thrive in their everyday lives.

Penny will be off on adventures with her family in her spare time, probably on or in the water, if not getting lost in nature.
